　　每年的「香港最佳新聞獎」是香港新聞界的盛事，既鼓勵新聞工作者切磋砥礪，肯定他們在爭分奪秒中仍力求卓越的精神，更讓我們從得獎作品中回顧一年來的悲喜得失。

　　言論自由、出版自由造就香港成為亞太地區重要的新聞中心，傳媒機構集聚，競爭激烈。要在這樣的環境下堅守不偏不倚的原則，報道以事實為根據，評論以客觀作標準，無所偏、無所畏，是公眾的期許，也是新聞自由的價值所在。

　　我謹祝賀得獎的新聞從業員和新聞機構，並期望大家在今天取得的佳績之上，力求突破，為廣大讀者帶來更多高質素的新聞。

　　The Hong Kong News Awards is an annual highlight for the local media community. The Awards are a mark of prestige that promotes exchanges among journalists and gives recognition to their quest for professional excellence, even under the pressure of tight deadlines. This event also affords us the pleasure of looking back over the stories of the past year's ups and downs and gains and losses through the high quality submissions and winning entries.

　　Hong Kong's commitment to freedom of speech and publication has helped to establish the city as an important media hub in the Asia-Pacific region. A broad spectrum of media entities thrive in Hong Kong and competition is fierce within the industry. Nevertheless, the public expects our journalists to uphold the strongest principles of ethical reporting by providing impartial, fact-based reports and objective commentary without fear or prejudice. These principles are intrinsic to the values of press freedom.

　　My sincere congratulations to all the winning journalists and news agencies. I know you will continue to build on your achievements by bringing more quality news coverage to the public.
