　　二OO八年極不平凡，也再次凸顯香港傳媒鍥而不捨的精神，以及新聞自由的可貴。我謹祝賀年度香港最佳新聞獎的各位得主。

　　這一年，大喜大悲，落差極大。香港本身的故事俯拾皆是，加上背靠祖國、面向世界，既得地緣之便，也同時承受四面八方的衝擊。對於新聞界來說，無論事情是喜是悲、是好是壞，只要是關乎公眾利益，是市民要知道的，都是新聞，都有空間讓新聞從業人員發揮才能，以文字和圖像向讀者述說精彩的故事。

　　獲獎固是錦上添花，尤為難得的是新聞界求真求全的使命感。

　　謹向香港新聞工作者致意，並期望看到更多精彩的道。

　　2008 has been an eventful year. Once again, our determined and probing media have proven the value of a free press in Asia's world city. I warmly congratulate the winners of the Hong Kong News Awards 2008.

　　Throughout the highs and lows of 2008, the local media have kept people informed and updated as well as entertained. On top of the plentiful stories happening in Hong Kong, we were also bombarded by news from around the globe, thanks to our geographical proximity to our motherland and our seamless connection with the rest of the world. I congratulate our journalists on their professionalism and dedication in covering these and many others stories.

　　Winning an award is something to be celebrated, but it is the media's mission of telling the full picture of the truth that is particularly worth our applause.

　　In this spirit, I give my highest regards to our journalists, Keep up the good work.
