衷心恭贺「二零一七年香港最佳新闻奖」各得奖者。

二零一七年是不平凡的一年，不仅见证香港回归祖国二十周年和香港特区第五届政府就职，还发生许许多多社会大事，新闻界朋友马不停蹄，为市民网罗最新资讯，敬业乐业。

香港新闻工作者以锲而不舍的探究精神，采访报道社会关心的各项议题，并作出深入精辟的分析评论，显示「一国两制」在香港贯彻落实，同时体现《基本法》所订明的新闻自由和出版自由，这些都是香港赖以成功的基石。

今届「香港最佳新闻奖」分为四个组别，共设七十五个奖项，旨在表扬不同领域的新闻工作者的卓越成就，并鼓励业界秉持专业，精益求精，恪守传媒独立自主的核心价值。

香港报业公会每年悉力筹办「香港最佳新闻奖」，我深表赞赏。我亦感谢各评审委员会在百忙中抽空参与评审工作，选出各奖项得主，实在劳苦功高。

谨祝各位新闻界朋友新一年工作顺利有成，事业更上层楼。

I am delighted to congratulate the winners of the Hong Kong News Awards 2017.

During a year that marked, among many other things, the 20^th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to our Motherland and the inauguration of the Fifth Term Government of the HKSAR, there was no lack of opportunities for journalists to demonstrate their expertise and professionalism in 2017.

The probing and insightful reporting of topics of interest to the community echoes the enduring success of Hong Kong under the “One Country, Two Systems” principle, including freedom of the press and of publication which is enshrined in the Basic Law.

With a total of 75 awards in four sections, the News Awards honour the achievements of journalists from different sectors and inspire all industry players to strive for excellence and uphold the values of a free and unfettered media.

I commend the Newspaper Society on organising the News Awards and I thank the panel of distinguished adjudicators who have given much time and consideration to the judging process. 

I wish you all continued success in the year ahead.
