　　现今世界日趋复杂，媒体科技日新月异。香港报业公会在这环境下致力提高新闻质素，殊堪赞许。

　　就香港而言，2012年是别具意义的一年，尤其是在政治方面 ― 香港特别行政区第四届政府和新一届立法会同在这年就任。香港的社会、金融和经济发展固然瞬息万变，年内亦举行了不少体育和文化艺术盛事。

　　在2012年，传媒以认真的态度，深入报道与社会各界息息相关的时事新闻，使市民大众掌握世界最新动态。

　　香港特别行政区政府致力保持本港自由开放的媒体环境。媒体自由是香港的主要竞争优势，亦是我们的核心价值。所有人都应该尊重并捍卫媒体自由。

　　香港最佳新闻獎旨在表扬优秀的新闻从业员，并鼓励业界以不偏不倚、翔实准确的报道，发挥媒体的影响力，为市民提供优质资讯。

　　谨此再次祝贺2012年香港最佳新闻獎所有得獎者。

　　I am very pleased to congratulate the winners of the Hong Kong News Awards 2012.

　　I also commend the Newspaper Society of Hong Kong on its work in promoting high-quality journalism in an increasingly complex and hi-tech media world.

　　2012 was a remarkable year for Hong Kong, especially on the political front with the inauguration the new Fourth Term HKSAR Government and new Legislative Council. It was also a busy time for sport, arts and cultural events as well as the city’s social, financial and economic development.

　　Throughout 2012 the media has kept people informed of the latest developments and issues affecting all corners of our society with insightful and indepth reporting.

　　The HKSAR Government is committed to maintaining our city’s free and open media environment. Media freedom is one of our city’s key competitive strengths and a core value of Hong Kong that should be respected and protected by all stakeholders.

　　These Awards recognize excellence in journalism and the influential role of the media in informing the public through fair, balanced and high-quality reporting.
